Back to the wired…

I’ve given up on having my fileserver as a wireless client on my network. I’ve tried literally all brands sold in Canada (I made sure to get different chipsets/models) and I’ve concluded it all sucks.

My Linksys WRT310N performs great with my laptop’s Atheros AR5009 chip (11a/g/n), averaging 10-12MB/s with large files. Everything I’ve bought tops out at 25-50% of that speed, including a different 11n/5ghz router + 5ghz wnic.

I’m going to build a simple/low power htpc to access my files stored over the gigabit lan. It’s cheaper and much faster.
