I discovered the joys of jitter free 120hz display today after installing an LG GGC-H20L (Blu-ray/HD DVD) drive in my HTPC. My analog cable looks like ass, but all digital media looks great. Fair trade.
No traveling this past weekend! It was nice to wake up at home and relax with Jen. We went for lunch at a diner I’ve been wanting to visit for awhile. The name espaces me at the moment, even though it left an impression. Inside is a 40s-50s motif with a lot of James Dean memorabilia.
I split Jen’s first banana split.
The other day I decided that my projector was the wrong display for my apartment. I’ve owned it for a couple of years, and loved it. Since about January of this year the bulb has been fading in lumens output; it was approaching the end of it’s lifespan. A little over a month ago, the ‘replace bulb’ warning started to appear when the unit was turned on.
I continued to use it with the intention of replacing the bulb. A month after ordering the bulb, I was pretty fed up and realised I hadn’t used my xbox or tv in months. I got GTA IV after it came out, and haven’t really played it yet. Sad face.
I cancelled the bulb order and started a tv hunt. After a couple of days I had decided on a Samsung LN40A650. It’s comparible to the 7 and 8 series minus the DLNA support; which I don’t need thanks to my HTPC being my main media box.
It’s pretty sexy, too bad my tv bench is pretty ugly. I’ll replace it next summer when I move to a new place and get better furniture.
Jen took me out for mexican food last night; and it kicked ass. I’ve never really eaten mexican based on the small city I call my home town. There’s just, nothing mexican about Northern Ontario food wise. Anyways, I was happy to discover my choice of beer matched my choice of fajitas pretty good and I piled on my toppings as best I could. I went with chicken, Jen chose veggitarien and shared some of her green beans with me.
After the tasty meal we went next door to Oz Kafe and sat at the bar to chat with Jen’s friend, Oz who is the owner of the bistro/restaurant. She made us a strong alcohol based coffee and someone brought us chocolate torts with strawberries cooked on top. Amazing after dinner coffee/desert.
I really enjoyed everything.
Montreal was really fun. Mike made an amazing meal. The biodome was very impressive to walk through. My 135mm lens fell out of my pack Saturday night as I was getting ready to leave to shoot some Chinese Lanterns. The filter shattered and the front element was damaged a little. Thankfully the lens still functions and looks good.
I’m going to Montreal with Jen for the weekend, to visit her uncle. The last visit was a lot of fun, and this time we’re going to (hopefully) go to a few places that are camera friendly. I’ll be back on Monday with a bunch of pics!
I love this iPhone app.
I’m happy to say I purchased a new tripod today. A Manfrotto 190XPROB with a 488RC2 ball head. It’s probably going to be the last tripod I buy. I also got a new camera pack the other day. It’s a National Geographic Earth Explorer (NG5162); what a lame name eh? It’s very comfortable on my back with all my gear inside.
