I think it’s rather lame to call attention to having a design lifted, and then steal a very distinct type for use on your own clothes without so much as changing it a little.
Onetwentysix’s blog entry has examples. In my opinion it clearly shows how someone (who probably submitted the work to Johnny Cupcakes) took a few of his hand drawn examples which have been on flickr for quite awhile and slightly modified a few letters; and put it all together.
Jon almost did the font for my neck tat, but he didn’t have enough time to meet my nearly instant deadline. He suggested the pimp font I wear now. His work is too unique to be stolen, it’s easily recognizable as his.
The time had come. I needed to cut up a pretty big sheet of polycarbonate (plexiglass) to make a custom lid for the aquarium side with the skimmer hanging off, and figure out a good way to get my portable air conditioner exhausted through the living room windows. The lid was pretty simple, the sheet was 26″ wide and I needed 7×24″ I made a cut 8″ wide across it and put it aside. The AC was also pretty simple to figure out, but I couldn’t complete the job last night. I made three 8 x 26″ pieces to assemble length wise creating a long strip. One end piece will need to be trimmed prior to assembly for a good tight fit, because I’m not sure how well it’ll bend with reinforcing pieces across the back along the seams.
I need to pick up some silicon, or whatever will adhere to the surface today because I have a forth strip slimmed down and held together with the stock window shim, filling a gap. There’s a small opening because the slimming left one end chipped in a corner, and it’s not a perfect fit due to difference of designs. I want to close that up asap.
Anyways, I sprayed my kitchen with plastic when I busted out the rotary tool & cutting disc to melt/cut out the lid. I’m very happy with the end result, it took a good amount of tweaking but I guess that comes with the “cut, check, cut again” method. Clean up was a bitch.
The restaurant is located in a residential area very close to Bronson & Gladstone. I’ve walked by it almost daily, often wondering what the food was like. Well, last night Jen and I decided it was time to find out. We went for dinner, expecting diner food. What we got was much, much better.
Inside is a small, stylish restaurant with friendly staff and good music. Most importantly, the chairs were comfortable.
Jen sampled a wine before we got a half litre of a shiraz, which lasted the meal. We ordered our food after giving the menu serious consideration; the options were great. I had a tenderloin steak with frites and Jen had a tofu steak with potatoes. Both dishes were well prepared and the presentation was good. During our meal, our waitress occasionally checked in to see if we were satisfied. It was nice without being intrusive.
I have to check out their breakfast options.
Definitely going back, since it’s just around the corner from my place. It’s very much like Oz, which is by Jen’s place.
This past weekend Jen and I went to this street event in Centretown on Spark Street; which means it was a short walk! Awesome of course, because we could drink beer on the balcony before going for food. Mmmmm BBQ food.
The event was fun to attend. The line ups were a little scary, but usually worth the wait.
Just to follow up that last post; things are fine. We talked which I didn’t get into. Looking forward go a rib festival this Saturday!
Jen came over to hang out and watch ‘Super High Me‘. It’s a documentary about comedian Doug Benson and 60 days of his life. 30 days with no weed, prior to 30 days of THC. It’s hilarious. I think the best part involved Mark Emery.
Anyways, that’s not main point of this entry. Shortly after Jen arrived we were outside on the balcony smoking a joint and I mentioned that we missed the Suicide Girls gala in Toronto; it had just passed. The conversation changed pretty quickly and suddenly she bashing the site, girls, and it seemed like me as well via association. I was pretty taken back, ’cause she had said not long ago that she’d go with me to the event if I went; thinking that meant she wanted to attend. Apparently she meant she wanted to ‘watch me’. Anyways, an awkward meal later she hadn’t said anything, and I was going over what just happened in my head, and all I could come up with is ‘we’re into different things, not going to work’.
So, instead of pretending like it never happened like I used to; I decided to talk. I said my pov, and said something like ‘maybe we should just be good friends’ ’cause I don’t want to deal with an insecure girlfriend that has nothing to worry about; and won’t talk. That kind of shit killed my last relationship. I know it doesn’t work, no matter how much you want it to.
That upset her and she stood by the balcony for a few minutes before saying she was going to leave. At the door I said ‘So you’re just going to leave?’ and she stopped. We talked a little then and she explained herself.
Later, while we were outside she apologized for the ‘attack’. I accepted. I know a lot of people wouldn’t be into the content of SG, but I am and I enjoy the community aspect of the site; particularily the photography groups where I can chat with successful photogs that do various types of work. I hope this isn’t an reoccuring issue… that’d get old fast.
I’m pretty sure my easy going nature about porn & sex/sexuality comes from my Dad. He had pinups in his work shop for years while I was young and he didn’t think there was a problem with me seeing a tastefully naked woman. Looking back neither do I considering the type of photos they were. Soft focus, 60s style pinups. Awesome.
When I moved to Ottawa I decided to use Rogers for my ISP. They let me book the appointment day, making the move easier. When I got online, I discovered I was capped at 60GB. That’s not that much data. I blew threw the cap for 2 months, on the 3rd I’d be responsible for paying the overage charge of $2/GB which would put my bill somewhere around $300+ a month. Shitty deal.
I switched to Acanac because the price is pretty sweet. It turns out I’m roughly 4km from the telco central office which routes me, so I get great speed. A full 6Mb/s for $30/month with a static ip and no blocked ports. Most importantly, no cap.
I’m also paying $8 for a dryloop, cause I fucking hate Bell and will never use their land line service again unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Jen and I went to House of Paint on Sunday, for the afternoon. It was under a bridge on Bronson St. by Carlton U. The setup was impressive, with Red Bull as a sponsor and a great sound system. The weather wasn’t as good; rain bombarded the area in waves for most of the day. When it was really coming down the drains from the bridge were like giant shower heads, on everything below them.
The talent was top quality. The colors were vivid. I’m going next year.
We went to Scotia Bank Place on Saturday night for a monster truck rally. it kicked ass. I wish I had brought my 135mm lens for the Moto-X guys, my 16-50 wasn’t ideal.
There’s absolutely nothing comparible to use on Linux. Regardless of personal opinion, I simply haven’t found anything that has all the features AND a good gui. I have around 4 gigs of photos from the weekend to process (monster trucks and graffiti festival) and I’m going to end up using my virtualized workstation and Photoshop.
