Raid 0+1′d
I setup my new raid this weekend. It was a bit of a pain in the ass, ’cause the manual for the controller said I could use 1 drive as a master, but the bios said otherwise. I had killed my original raid 5 minutes before 9pm, so I had to wait until Sunday morning to get a fifth 500gb drive to use. I went with a Western Digital instead of another Seagate, because I didn’t want a constantly on power led. I used the raid controller the night before to mirror my backup drive to the Seagate via raid1 cloning; which I then put into my esata enclosure.
The new drive was installed in seconds and I had my new raid setup in about a minute. So far I’m loving the bay enclosure. Having a very fast redundant system is nice. I wish I had done this config years ago.
I also changed out my 120mm fans for new ones with blue leds. They were $8 for a nice >40cfm with a low db rating. It doesn’t hurt that they’re the same brand as the case. I removed the internal 3.5″ hdd bay so the air flow is pretty good now.
