Long day
August 31, 2007 - 10:02 pm (Photography - Work)

Just hit the fourteenth hour of work. We launched the new sites today, prematurely maybe; but we had to do it for advertising deadlines. I’m going to take a break. I might have to put in a few hours tomorrow too, sigh.

Epic, or 2K games please fix your engine and Bioshock

Mini rant; the sound issues present in Vista due to the lack of directsound and the subsequent emulation is annoying. It really kills the atmosphere because there’s constant static. It’s not limited to one brand or model of soundcard, it’s all of them.

Drinking on a Tuesday is a little harsh
August 29, 2007 - 7:39 am (Bikes - Photography)

Maegan’s in Toronto right now for a job related visit with a few co-workers. She left yesterday afternoon, so last night I was looking for things to do and asked Chris if he wanted to go for a bike ride. He agreed, but ask that we stay in the city because he was a little sore still from Blue on the weekend. We were doing our usual city loop when I suggested we stop at the Townehouse because I owed for a pitcher.

It was a good suggestion. The weather was starting to turn ugly as a thunderstorm was slowly rolling in and the humidity was rising. So, I got us some beer and pool table money and we shot a few games. The ride home wasn’t too bad but it’s really hard to move fast without feeling the beer, not that we drank a lot. It was an acidic feeling. Beer plus effort equals blah, heh.

Bluemountain rocked!
August 27, 2007 - 7:48 am (Bikes - Photography)

I went riding at blue mountain yesterday and had a blast. It was my first time downhillning this year because of my shoulder injury.

Second run I ended up sliding out a long small berm ’cause I leaned in too much hah! Third run started by bouncing off a tree with my right shoulder (tiny lip between 2 tightly spaced trees). Later I pulled my right arm dropping into an easy trail by not anticipating a bunch of rocks and landing weird. I decided to buy upper body armor shortly after that for fear of hitting a tree.

I guess I gotta learn to start off easier. I slowed down after that so I could last the whole day and then Curt started having bad luck. He was hit from behind on a fast trail (called autobahn which is never ending berms) and ended up on his head. It rung his bell and he needed to take a break. A bit later he endo’d on a pretty tech trail and ejected, landed on one heel and fucked it up badly. He didn’t roll it, but the impact did something to either the muscle or one of the bones; instant giant foot. We had to get the medical support to pick him up. This happened around 5pm, so we ended up leaving a few hours early.

It was a great day for riding. The hill was pretty empty.

Bioshock rocks
August 23, 2007 - 9:54 pm (PC / Console - Photography)

I purchased it via Steam the day it came out; played a bit and enjoyed it. Today I tweaked my overclock a little and got it back to how it was before I flashed my bios and tried Bioshock again today, this time using my 360 controller. I don’t think it could’ve been a sweeter setup, the game plays so well. It’s very creepy and very enjoyable. Best fps I’ve played in a long time.

The gimped widescreen support is annoying, so I’m playing 4:3.

Getting a new cpu
August 23, 2007 - 7:37 am (PC / Console - Photography)

The past 2 weeks or so of Vista/XP sucking eventually got me considering my platform of choice because I am sorta locked into it for a while, to get the return on my premium ram. No problems there, I prefer to buy once and use something until it’s no longer useful. This brings me to my cpu, which is under powered but overclocked 25% so there’s a good offset of initial suck balanced by good speed.

Yesterday the holy grail of opterons appeared on ebay for $125; the 170 with 2MB of L2 cache. It’s the same clock as my current cpu, but rated significantly higher, and it overclocks potentially by 50%. When paired with my mobo and ram designed for overclocking… this could significantly increase my system speed so I grabbed one. It’s not like I have any cpu choices these days as the platform is already out of production and the good stuff is starting to disappear for forever now.

Anyways, once that comes in and I find the ceiling of the front side bus (fsb) I’ll then move my ram to a sorta 500mhz clock so there’s no instability with the memory I should be ahead of my current clock speed with twice as much cache. Yay me.

New rotors on the fiend
August 22, 2007 - 5:52 pm (Bikes - Photography)

Alligator serration rotor

Pricepoint had these rotors on for half price ($20ish) so I picked up a pair for the fiend. The stock rotors get super hot so these should be a cooler running.

Skullcandy lowriders aren’t bad
August 19, 2007 - 7:03 pm (Misc - PC / Console - Photography)

lowriders

I picked up a pair today for my pc and I’m really impressed with em for the price. The 40mm driver is surprisingly good; there’s good distinction at the lows/mids/highs without sounding bright or mudded. The gold is also kinda pimp because my whole setup is black.

So far I’d say they’re great for gaming and pretty decent for music. Listening to Sirius through these phones is much better than the earbuds I’m replacing; which I’ll give to Maegan. They constantly fell out of my ears.

Skatepark sesh with Shane
August 18, 2007 - 5:59 pm (Bikes - Photography)

270 off the hip

Went for mid-morning session with Shane today. Some clouds rolled in quickly while I was in transit to the park and they didn’t leave. Assholes. I was able to get a few good shots and Shane busted out his mini bike.

Maybe the fragile didn’t suck

I’m listening to it for the first time I believe through my Cayin gear. I’m pleasantly surprised by the acoustic assault and production quality. Some of the tracks are still pretty pussified, but he (Trent Reznor) was starting to get old. He’s no Al Jourgensen.
