A very nice birthday present

Orange plate coral

Maegan’s parents gave me a gift certificate for the local saltwater shop. Yesterday I used it to get this very nice orange plate coral. It’s about 5″ across.

It looks unreal under the actinic bulbs at night.

Searchmont roadtrip

A very nice bay

I went to Searchmont yesterday with Chris, to go snowboarding. The drive was pretty boring and flat with very little variation of scenery.

The odd stretch was amazing.

The hill sucked, even though they had just gotten a little pow.

Open brain coral

I took some pictures of the reef this morning with only the actinic lights on.

I recall a strange dream from lastnight…

Mike’s hat

The setting was Elle & Mike’s apt. Maegan and I were visiting I guess, and Mike was playing GuildWars: Nightfall. When I saw this I think I said something like “sweet! someone I know to play with”.

What the fuck.

I smoked some creeper weed lastnight, and I blame that.

Need a lid

New light

I picked up a sheet of polycarbonate to cut a lid for the reef tank (tonight probably). I just put the new fixture on because I was curious how it’d look.

I like it.

Update: I made tried to make a lid lastnight and it didn’t work out as planned. I quickly cut my sheet into 2 properly sized peices to work with and proceeded to score a section to remove for the skimmer. Removing that section proved to be a disaster. I tried two simple methods to get the peice out. Hitting it quickly with a solid object broke off a huge area of the corner. Using a very wide plier took off only one side of the corner. Clearly the pliers were better, but the sheet was too thin to be making cut outs in.

I decided to go with a small sheild only below the light to protect the fixture shield, which is a very thin polycarbonate I think. It might be plastic. Anyways, Chris has noticed salt causing damage to the shield on his fixture (48″ that runs hotter) so I believe it’s in my best interest to heed his warning.

The sheet I chose was simply too thin, it couldn’t support it’s weight at the length I broke it to. I need a higher end peice; similiar to what I used for my AC. It’s an expensive sheet (sigh).

New light, broken end cap

Broken end cap

The Current-USA Nova Extreme (who comes up with the names?) arrived today with a broken end cap; sigh. It seems I’m destined to get busted products from this company.

I’ve contacted the retailer for a replacement end cap, but the lack of a sku doesn’t bode well.

Redoing my home NAS
February 14, 2007 - 10:32 am (Misc - Photography)

I decided to rebuild my NAS box after looking at my LAN and not liking how my diskspace is distributed. A lack of tv has shown me the light! I bought a copy of NASLite2 CDD to handle this task. I’m planning on using a 120, 200 and 320GB hd for audio (i don’t rip much with a tube cd player), photos and video. This should be perfect.

I want to get my Gb nic going also, so I’ll either be changing the mobo or case in the future. It’ll probably be the case because I have a spare mobo/cpu that’s more powerful and works with the nic.

Yay I’m old!

Yesterday was my 27th birthday! Woohoo!

Maegan gave me a very nice DC hoody with horizontal stripes. It should be great for warmer weather. We spent the day at Blue Mountain snowboarding. It was amazing. They had gotten around a 50cm of powder very recently, and the left side of the mountain wasn’t being used much so there was one run that was basically unused and still loaded with pow!

The only part that sucked was the 15min walk to it, which wasn’t that bad at all. I ended up flipping myself on the last pow run while turning. It was a lot of fun.

I dug how my (shitty) wide k2 board rode, especially in the pow; so next year I think I’ll get something that’s wide and a little higher quality.

Clearing up

The uv sterilizer is nearly done it’s job. The 6500K light is pretty green.
