Yay hawk!

Sexy bitch

I was bored while Maegan was out lastnight with her sister so I decided to shave my head. Once I got it down to a #3 I figured “wtf” and gave myself another hawk. I like em. They look good on me. Kiss kiss!

Had a good weekend

Great sunrise

Saturday was pretty relaxed. I had a nice wake’n'bake and did a bunch of aquarium work. Later that day we went to Maegan’s camp and I decided to bike the road. It took me 1.5 hours, which is about an hour longer than I believed it would take me. Loose gravel is a real pain. Had a sauna before coming home.

Sunday was we didn’t do much.

Aquarium shuffle

All setup

The hardware from the tall tank (filter/co2/monitors) went on the bala tank this weekend. I emptied the tall tank, cleaned the substrate and put the tinfoil barbs in it. The pleco from that tank is still in it because well, he seems to like it in there more than the 40gl long.

I’m going to change the substrate at point down the road when the wisteria stops growing in a carpet; if it stops.

fun times…

i got my g class license today after completing my g2 exit exam. i had a moment of uncertainty when we were on the highway and i was supposed to stay at the speed limit (80km) but we were cresting a hill and of course my truck weighs a lot being a full size so then we speed up a little; the tester didn’t seem to notice so then i naturally let the truck go back to the limit and i get dinged for not keeping a constant speed. i explained that after the test and the guy laughed saying that made sense; but i had already pasted so wtf.

my new cpu seems to be fucked up and i’m not thrilled about that, because my old cpu was damaged removing it from the mobo because the thermal paste was like a glue on the water block/pump. i’m going to operate on the system tonight. ddr500 rocks.

Almost ready to replant

Interesting growth

This weekend I’m going to merge the contents of the tall tank with the bala, and move the filter/co2 to it. It’s going to be a lot of work, but I’m positive it’ll be a very cool tank once it’s together and growing.

Some upgrades
August 21, 2006 - 9:45 am (Misc - Photography)

I ordered an AMD S939 3800+ X2 and 2GB of DDR-500 ram so I can overclock it like a mofo. I weighed the pros and cons of staying S939 since AM2 is out and I can go to that platform without replacing my motherboard (yay!), but this just seemed like a better choice based on performance and cost of ram. The DD2-1000(mhz) ram is more than twice the price as DDR and performs so close it’s impossible to tell them apart, so that was the main factor.

I’m going to offer selling the CPU/ram from my workstation at home to the company for a workstation upgrade, since we’ve been doing that for a few years and I recently send an official request for an upgrade due to changes in dev software and puny hardware.

Doh!

My saltwater tank is going thru a pretty heavy diatom algae outbreak, heavier than it should be. I suspected phosphates were the cause so I looked up if the Brita tap filter I’ve been using filters them out and to my surprise it doesn’t. It turns out I should’ve looked that up because this kind of assumption/result can really fuck up a reef.

I’m going to pick up an extra 5gl jug of distilled water tomorrow to do another water change in a few days.

Dead rising is fun.. but annoying
August 20, 2006 - 11:22 am (Misc - Photography)

Yesterday while we were out shopping for a new vaccuum cleaner (got a panasonic, very nice) I picked up a copy of Dead Rising for the Xbox360 and it’s a wicked. The save game system sucks ass though. You have to run into a washroom (big S on the map) or the security room, but the problem is you can only have one saved game per device. It’s completely retarded because it impedes your prorgress greatly. For instance, this morning while I was playing I switched between zones in the mall and was presented with a “Cannot read disc” message which prompted me to open the dvd drive and the game turned itself off. Just great! I had to replay the last 30mins to get back to where I was.

Capcom are asshats.

The rest of the game is great so far.

Bad luck with the jbj fixture
August 17, 2006 - 3:33 pm (Aquarium - Photography)

I received the package today at lunch (a day early yay!) but when I went to set it up I was very let down. The construction quality was well, low end. I would’ve been happy to use it if I could’ve. The rim mount was not designed to work with my tank!

I’m still pretty annoyed about what this means a few hours later. Since the light fixture was unusable, I shipped it back via airmail at lunch and proceeded to call UPS to inquire about getting my import fees back. I was eventually directed to a Government website where I could download a form; and mail it off with copies of my invoices/receipts showing I had shipped the item back to the sender. Great.

The main problem lies within the state of my planted tank. It’s going on two weeks without light and it looks like shit. Half of the plants are dead or dying and I can’t find a local substitute fixture that would adequately light it. Now my problem is, wtf do I do with tank?

I’m thinking of breaking it all down, putting the fish in with the big guys; move the filter over to that tank and store the co2 gear until I need/want a calcium reactor on my reef. The only problem then is what do I do with the tank itself? Who’s going to want it? I don’t if it’s not growing monster plants.

Launched avoidwork
August 16, 2006 - 7:51 pm (Misc - Photography)

I decided to put a forum up on avoidwork.com with the hope/intention that someday it’ll be used; but I have no interest in promoting it right now. It’ll probably sit for quite awhile.
