Fungal medication tinted the water green. I put some more plants in; wysteria, moneywort, a grass that i forget. There’s also a twig fish.
I removed the java fern because it was getting owned by the hair algae and contributing too much to it’s spread. I’m going to get some new ones once i have this algae under control to enhance the wood.
Picked up the new air conditioner on Thurs @ noon from the post office. It was pretty easy to setup and has very basic controls. The first night I had it in the bedroom and didn’t have the compressor turned on, so it was just moving air; and did a decent job. I turned up the air circulation and turned on the compressor before going to work, expecting the apt. to be properly chilled after work.
I was a little off with my expectations. The AC cooled the bedroom fantastically, but it wouldn’t/couldn’t push the air out of the bedroom, which is a bit of a let down because the old small ac (4900btu or so) could eventually cool the whole apt. I moved the unit back into the living room Saturday morning. This didn’t help matters much because it was cooler outside than inside with the AC running.
Sunday was the real test and I think it did ok. 35c with the humidex outside (closer to 40c inside at our elevation), and a nice dry 23c in the living room/hallway. The bedroom was naturally warmer due to the air circulation, but it was a dry warmth that the bedroom fan could easily compensate for.
This morning when I stepped outside to get one of my bikes I was hit with hot humidity and it sucked pretty bad. Even my office is warmer than my apt so I think I’m going to keep it.
Update: This morning my thermostat was bouncing at 30c and the AC was barely doing anything 4ft in front of it. POS? I think so. It’s going back. I wish i hadn’t given my plexiglass to Chris ’cause now I have nothing to hook up my window AC.
I cleaned out more algae today, but it’s still firmly on some of the plants. Bugger. I removed the java ferns ’cause they were lost causes; taken over by algae.

The amazon sword and java fern started to pearl today. I got the pH controller setup yesterday and it rocks.
I moved the tank yesterday, across the living room (and rearranged everything). It was pretty easy. I put more Rotala and some Red Ludwigia in today.
In other news, something is shifty with my truck now. It looks like there’s a short somewhere; possibly in the new wiper motor because my old battery died over night, and my new one was almost dead today (had to get a boost from Chris). I’m pretty sure this is gonna make me hate my truck as I go thru a process of elimination to find the problem.
Maegan’s going to visit Elle in Toronto for a few days; so I’m going to fuck around here and probably go riding.
So there’s an electrical issue somewhere in the truck which happened when it was sitting? I’m guessing either a fuse went or the battery needs a jump because it hasn’t been driven much lately; but it shouldn’t be dead. I’m going to have to look at it when it’s not thundering.
Update: The battery was dead. Bought a new one.
i was on the phone for 50 minutes trying to get to a billing department that handles my obscure expressvu account type and along the way i had some asshat tell me i owed them $80 for a down converter i’ve never had in my possesion (i assume it’s always been in the switch room i cannot access). i tell this to the guy on the other end. he gets irrate telling me it’s impossible and that i have it. i start to get irrate, explaining i’ve never had in my apartment. he says the tech that did the install put it on my line because he has to.
“sure, in the switchroom”
again i’m told that’s not possible. he puts me on hold while his supervisor talks to him (random walk by?). dude comes back, tells me i must have it. i explain how my apt has two coax lines going to the switchroom, and the tech hooked up the second in the switchroom, and punches a hole in my wall to get at the line; plugs it into the ird.
it was like an ephiphany or something to the rep; which comes after saying i’m lying and will be invoiced. great. dude’s going to send a tech to collect the shit in the switchroom and verify that my line was unhooked (i doubt). says he’ll transfer me to the billing dept so i can get my cheque cut for the credit i can’t use (original reason for the call).
get the rep, middle of a sentence my cellphone drops. bell blocks my vonage voip. yay bell and rogers for both sucking. i call back, new chick tries to send me on my way thru 4 dept transfers because she can’t send me directly to the billing department because that’d be too fucking easy.
she sends me back to the initial call menu.
“estimated wait time is 8 – 10 minutes”

i’ve been dealing with that shit since ‘99 or so when i got my dish. for the last 5 years i’ve been telling them i don’t have this down converter in my apt. do you think someone would’ve added it to the account notes?
that fact that i was billed a month after my cancellation, had to call to get them to amend my account so the difference of the cancellation became active was amazing; but then they issue me a credit on a closed account. like .. wtf kind of system do they have and did the french make it?
Maegan’s sister Miranda is up for the weekend, staying at their parent’s place. She stopped by to visit. They ended up doing some painting and watched a movie.
Well, the water gets cloudy if i don’t have the airstone running 24/7, at first i thought it was due to a lack of o2 but the filter dumps a lot of o2 bubbles into the water; which makes me believe the stone is needed to simply move the water.
so, i have a tank with insane light and a killer co2 setup (coming), perfect substrate and great fish … but the tank dimensions screw it all up. i’m gonna end up trying the maxijet/reactor method to diffuse the co2 and move the water around, but if it’s not enough movement i’m going to look into an alt tank and sell mine for cheap; or give it away to someone in Maegan’s family. Maybe Miranda would like it since it’s a pretty small footprint and great for small fish.
The wipers on my truck are stuck, seems that the bushings seized which is not good ’cause it’s been raining 2 days straight now. Waiting for a dry day to pop the arms and inspect/replace.
Update: The tank is suffering from a bacteria bloom due to the maturity of it, and probably a little over feeding on my part which i’ll have to fix. Now I have to do a bunch of water changes over the weekend. Yay! My truck is still fucked.
